Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered Monday through Thursday from 6:30 - 7:00 PM; or by appointment.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation along with the Anointing of the Sick are the two sacraments of healing. Reconciliation is the sacrament through which we receive God's forgiveness for sins committed after Baptism.
This sacrament is called by many names:
Confession - because the confession or telling of our sins to a priest is an essential part of the sacrament.
Penance - because it blesses the sinner's steps to change and turn away from sin.
Reconciliation - because it reconciles us or 'brings us back' to God and the Church.
Per the Church precepts:
'After having reached the age of discretion, each of the faithful is bound by an obligation faithfully to confess serious sins at least once a year. Anyone who is aware of having committed a mortal sin must not receive Holy Communion.'
Children must go to the Sacrament of Penance before receiving Holy Communion for the first time. In our Pastoral unit, children are prepared for this sacrament in the Level 2 Religious Education Program.
How to Confess Your Sins:
1. Make the sign of the cross.
2. Tell the priest when you made your last confession.
3. Confess your sins.
4. Listen to what the priest tells you.
5. Say an Act of Contrition (below).
6. The priest will say the words of forgiveness (Absolution).
7. Make the sign of cross.
An Act of Contrition:
O my God, I love you above all things. I am truly sorry for all my sins, and I thank you for forgiving me. Help me to stay close to you and to remember always your wonderful laws of love. Amen
