Holy Eucharist

The Mass is the center of Catholic life. Jesus instituted the Eucharist on the night before he died. “Then Jesus took some bread, and when he had given thanks, broke it and gave it to them saying, ‘This is my body which shall be given for you; do this as a memorial of me.’ He did the same with the cup after supper, and said, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood which will be poured out for you’” (Luke 22:19-20).

When Jesus instituted the Mass at the Last Supper, he told us to repeat that meal. To those who have been given the gift of faith, the Mass is more than a recalling of a long ago event, it is a meal which actually brings those who eat it into full contact with the saving power of God.

We believe the bread and wine are changed into the body and blood of Jesus Christ. The consuming of this food of eternal life is the sign of our union with Christ(see John 6:54).
