Anointing of the Sick
This sacrament is a sign of the Church’s care for the sick, and of God’s healing presence for the whole person: mind, body and spirit.
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is not reserved for someone who is dying - it is understood as a prayer for healing of spirit and/or body, for strength and for peace.
Anyone who is preparing for surgery or is living with a serious or chronic illness (physical or mental), or anyone experiencing weakness associated with advanced age, is encouraged by the Church to celebrate this sacrament. The sacrament can be received any time during the illness and can be received more than once during an illness.
